Morning vs Evening Desert Safari Dubai: Which Should You Book?

Should you book a morning desert safari or an evening desert safari in Dubai? Both take you to the red dunes for dune bashing, but they are very different trips. One is a short, cool, adrenaline-focused outing; the other is a half-day experience with sunset, a desert camp, live shows and dinner. Here is how they compare, so you can choose the right one for your trip.

The morning desert safari in Dubai

A morning desert safari is short, focused and cooler. You can choose between two departures:

  • Sunrise tour: pickup at 5:00 – 5:30 AM to watch the sun rise over the red dunes, with cooler temperatures and fewer visitors. You are back by 9:30 – 10:00 AM.
  • Standard morning tour: pickup at 8:00 – 8:30 AM for a relaxed start, back by 12:00 – 12:30 PM. Popular with families who do not want an early alarm.

Your driver picks you up in a 4×4 Land Cruiser from anywhere in Dubai or Sharjah, lowers the tyre pressure at the desert edge, then takes you on 30 minutes of dune bashing and up to a high dune for photos. Sandboarding, soft drinks and cold water are included. Want more? Add a camel ride (AED 180) or an ATV quad bike session (AED 220), or book the whole car with a private morning safari.

Choose a morning safari if you…

  • want the best light for photos and fewer people on the dunes
  • prefer cooler temperatures, especially from April to October
  • have your evenings already booked, or are on a short layover
  • care more about dune bashing and adrenaline than shows and dinner

The evening desert safari in Dubai

The evening desert safari is the classic Dubai experience, and the one most visitors picture. Pickup is at 3:00 – 3:30 PM, and the afternoon builds up to sunset and an evening at a traditional Arabian camp:

  1. 4×4 pickup from your hotel or residence in Dubai or Sharjah
  2. Red dune bashing in the Lahbab desert, then sandboarding
  3. A sunset photography stop on the high dunes
  4. Camel ride, Arabic coffee and dates, henna for ladies and traditional costumes for photos at the camp
  5. Two belly dance shows, two fire shows and a Tanoura performance
  6. BBQ buffet dinner with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options
  7. Drop-off back at your hotel around 9:30 – 9:45 PM

Choose an evening safari if you…

  • are visiting Dubai for the first time and want the complete experience
  • want sunset over the dunes, live entertainment and dinner in one trip
  • are travelling as a family, couple or group and want a relaxed evening
  • want the best value: at AED 89 it includes far more than a morning trip

What about quad bikes and dune buggies?

Both times of day work for extra adrenaline. In the morning, book the Morning Safari + ATV Quad Bike. In the evening, choose the Evening Safari with Quad Bike (AED 199) or drive your own dune buggy on a VIP evening safari.

Our verdict

If you can only do one, choose the evening desert safari: it is better value and gives you the full desert experience, from dune bashing and sunset to the camp, shows and dinner. Choose the morning desert safari if you love photography, want cooler weather, or simply want the thrill of the dunes without a long evening.
